Newsletter May 2008, Vol 6 - Saturday, May 24, 2008

As the cricket world rejoices in the apparent success of the 20/20 Competitions in India and contemplates further such Tournaments in other parts of the world, Vintage Cricket continues to offer serene and peaceful cricket-a throw-back to a slightly less frenetic era when many Vintage Cricketers were young.

Fitting somewhere into the older club cricket scene, Vintage Cricket offers the game at a pace that most of us can at least visualise if not quite maintain; does not include attractive dancing girls cavorting on the sidelines (though one imagines it could be arranged) and certainly does not include a surfeit of sixes and the magnificent standard of fielding that is a feature of modern cricket. But it does offer competitive cricket to the best of our agility given our age, experience and ability; an opportunity to make new cricketing friends and to greet old ones and most importantly the chance to discuss and analyse the game we love in all its forms over a quiet drink in relaxed cricket surroundings.
