Carnival Program:
The 1st World Vintage Cricket Carnival to be staged in England, the home of cricket will take place between August 10th and 16th, 2008.
A full program has been designed to allow players, umpires, supporters, wives and partners to enjoy Stratford upon Avon's wonderful history and the delightful heritage cricket grounds throughout the Cotswolds and the Warwickshire countryside.
Sunday August 10. Teams will arrive in Stratford upon Avon and settle into their selected accommodation. All hotels are haven been chosen for their proximity to Stratford upon Avon Cricket Club and for their warmth and hospitality.
Approximately 6.30 pm teams will transfer to the Headquarters Hotel, the Holiday Inn in the centre of Stratford upon Avon. As all accommodation is very close to the Stratford upon Avon town centre, transfers will be by a short stroll to the Welcome Party from 7 pm to 10 pm featuring substantial finger food, and beer, wine, soft drinks and a minimum of formality. A great opportunity to mix and mingle, to renew old friendships and establish new ones.
Monday August 11. Teams will transfer from hotels to local village cricket clubs for the first match on heritage grounds. Teams will be hosted with a welcome tea or coffee and afternoon tea and transferred back to their accommodation following the game and some English Cricket club hospitality. Evening at leisure to enjoy the selection of pubs, clubs and restaurants in Stratford upon Avon in easy walking distance from the hotels.
Tuesday August 12. At leisure with a number of special Vintage Cricket tour and excursion options in planning.
Wednesday August 13. Again teams will transfer from hotels to local village cricket clubs for the second match. Teams will be hosted with a welcome tea or coffee and afternoon tea and transferred back to their accommodation following the game and some English Cricket club hospitality. The evening will be free for visitors to enjoy the selection of pubs, clubs and restaurants in Stratford upon Avon in easy walking distance from the hotels. The Stratford upon Avon Cricket Club, hosts for the Carnival week will be open to all Vintage cricketers for an evening of fun, friendship and cricketing camaraderie.
Thursday August 14. At leisure with the opportunity to enjoy the many delights of Stratford upon Avon and surrounding districts. A wide range of excursions and day tours will be offered by our Ground Operator, Gullivers Sports Travel who are based in the region and who know all the great places to visits, the best restaurants and pubs..
Friday August 15. Third day of cricket - teams will transfer slightly earlier to local village clubs for the third game of cricket. At the conclusion of the game, teams will enjoy some local club hospitality before returning to their accommodation and preparing for the Finale Dinner in the Holiday Inn, walking distance from all accommodation. The function will be from 8 pm until 12.30am and will feature a three course sit down buffet dinner with complimentary beer, wine and juices. Two big screens and two bands.
