Mature Cricket for Mature Cricketers!

Age Groups:

  • Vintage Cricket can be played in two age groups at the discretion of teams and Vintage Carnival organisers:
  • Group One to be 35 to 45 years of age with discretion on the upper limit-if players over 45 wish to take part in Group One, they can but must be aware that it will be a younger grade. Vintage Cricket teams in Group One are considered to be relatively competitive and play under slightly different rules to Group Two.
    • Competitive (35 plus):
    • Semi-competitive (35 plus)
  • Group Two to be 45 years up with limited discretion at the lower age level-perhaps one or two only to make up numbers if a team is short of players. Group Two teams play under slightly different rules that are designed to suit their age, fitness and memory.
    • Leisurely (45 plus)
    • Once were Competitive (45 plus)
    • Social

Notes: Teams are requested to self grade within the above groups and to tell us a bit about themselves so that we can ensure that teams are matched in terms of approximate age, experience, ability and agility.

Rules:

  • The Laws of Cricket apply to Vintage Cricket except where varied to suit Vintage Cricketers.  The rules of Vintage Cricket may be varied from those suggested with the agreement of the captains of the teams involved in the match.
  • The rules are designed to maximise participation and enjoyment of all teams and players involved in Vintage Cricket. The rules and variations may take account of the region in which the match is taking place and the pitches on which matches are played.
  • The rules may also vary between the Groups.
  • For Groups One and Two:
    • Matches to be 40 over per side
    • Maximum of 8 overs per bowler
    • Minimum of 6 bowlers to be used.
  • For Group One Only:
    • Maximum run up for bowlers 12 metres
    • No compulsory batting retirements / recycling
(except as agreed between the teams)
  • For Group Two Only:
    • Maximum run up for bowlers 8 metres
    • Compulsory batting retirements and recycling at score of 30 (batsmen who retire after scoring 30 can resume their innings at the fall of the last wicket)
    • Innings to be divided in two-blocks of 20 overs. Side A bats for 20 overs and then allows Side B to have their first 20 overs. Side A resume their innings at the score reached in the first 20 overs and following completion of Side B's first 20 overs. Bowlers are limited to 8 overs per total innings and batsmen may only bat once during the total innings. The second 20 overs per team is a resumption of the innings, not a new innings.
  • No trophies or prize-winners except as may be arranged between the teams.

The Vintage Cricket Movement consists of a large number of teams and individuals who share a love of the game and who wish to continue playing cricket for as long as they can.

The organisers of Vintage Cricket will welcome teams, individuals, umpires and supporters to Vintage Cricket Carnivals and can organise fixtures before and after Carnivals for visiting teams. We can also organise tours in all parts of the cricketing world for Mature Cricket teams who wish to enjoy the truly international nature of Vintage Cricket.

Just contact us and tell us where you would like to tour and when and we will suggest itineraries that will suit your requirements but even better, why not come to our Barbados World Vintage Cricket Carnival in October/November 2006 - a true celebration of the game of cricket.

Vintage Cricket is an ideal way to prolong cricket careers, to have past players return to their clubs, to travel to fabulous cricket destinations and to enjoy International matches against like minded lovers of the great game.
